Email to drop

Forward an email to your private address and its attachments become a drop (Pro and Team).

ProTeam

Every Pro and Team account gets a private email address. Send or forward a message to it and the attachments become a drop in your library. You get a notification with the link, and the drop is filed like any other.

Set it up#

  1. Copy your address

Open Settings and find Email to drop. Your address looks like yourhandle+k3x9q2m7ab@in.slingdrop.my: your profile handle (or a short id if you have none) and a random part that makes it unguessable.

  2. Choose the defaults

Pick how long emailed drops last, who can open them, their purpose and a folder. They apply to every message from then on.

  3. Send or forward an email

Add the address as a contact, or set up a forwarding rule in your mail app for receipts, invoices or reports.

Keep the address private

Mail from any sender is accepted, so anyone who knows the address can add drops to your library. If it leaks, choose New address in Settings: the old address stops accepting mail straight away.

What becomes a drop#

  • Each attachment becomes a file in the drop. Small inline images (such as logos in a signature) are skipped when the message has other attachments.
  • The subject becomes the drop's title (up to 200 characters).
  • With attachments, the plain-text body is kept as the drop's message (up to 2,000 characters).
  • With no attachments, the body is saved as a note, Note.md, headed with the subject. A message with neither attachments nor text is rejected.
  • The drop's source is Email, and the sender's address is kept as “From …”. Find emailed drops under the Email view in your library, or file them with a filing rule on source or sender.

Defaults#

Each emailed drop is created with the defaults you picked under New emailed drops:

How long they lastforever · 90d · 30d · 7d · 24h
Default Forever (kept until you delete them).
Who can open themOnly me · Anyone with the link
Default Only me: the drop is private with no recipients, so only you can open it, in the app or on the web. Share it later from its settings. Anyone with the link makes it public.
PurposeShare · Feedback
Default Share (keep and send files). Feedback turns on comments and approval.
Foldera folder or none
Default none. Your filing rules run first; this folder is used only when no rule matches. If the folder is deleted, emailed drops go back to unfiled.

Limits#

LimitValue
PlansPro and Team. Mail to the address of an account on another plan is rejected.
Message size25 MB per email, attachments included
SendersAny sender. Keep the address private, and rotate it if needed.
Daily drops and storageSame as drops you send yourself (see Limits).

When a message is rejected#

The sender gets a bounce with the reason, for example when the message is over 25 MB, the address is unknown or rotated, the account isn't on Pro or Team, the message is empty, or the drop would go over a plan limit such as storage or the daily number of drops.

Email to drop is set up in the app. There is no public API for the address or its defaults; to create drops from code, use the Drops API.
